Southern staples unite: Cheerwine, pork
MMMMM…sweeeet, — uh, suuu-eeeeee?

The Charlotte Observer, ever-present, and ever thought provoking, offers up a story about the Cheerwine Championship Cooking team.
And, we like the results:
Championship Cheerwine Barbecue Sauce
Mix the following in a large pot over high heat:
• One 12-ounce can of Cheerwine
• 5 ounces molasses
• 6 ounces brown sugar
• 10 ounces your favorite brand barbecue sauce
• 2 ounces white distilled vinegar
• 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
• 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
• 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
• 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
• 1 ounce liquid smoke
Bring to boil while stirring. Cool, pour in container and refrigerate. Makes approximately 32 ounces of sauce. Good with pork, chicken or beef.
South Point still unbeaten, beats Forestview 35-16
Another great “away” crowd at Forestview on Friday night saw South Point stay unbeaten and at the top of the Big South Conference.
(Aaron Crumbley makes a run – David Luoto photo for the Gazette)
The football was good, even entertaining when Forestview went up early in the game. This led many to believe that maybe the Ashbrook game took something out of the team.
Then South Point took over — and the Gazette tells a better story than we could anyway.
Next Friday is South Point’s homecoming weekend. South Point will be hosting Charlotte Latin, a state power and ranked in News14’s – “14 to Watch” list. Good competition makes makes for good competitors.
We don’t believe the players or coaching staffs of North Gaston, Crest, or South Point are looking past their next games, but the media and local communities sure are — Phillip Gardner writes a story about the upcoming three weeks of football competition. We agree with him on this one – Can’t Hardly Wait.

Towns getting tougher on water violators
No legitimate reason to be overusing a resource in a time of crisis. There is no birthright to water a lawn or wash your car. Well, some will try to make a case for it anyway.
Kevin Siers, a political cartoonist for the Charlotte Observer holds a “write a caption” constest each week. This is last week’s cartoon and winning caption:
“Fishing in Lake Norman is great, but I only CMUD!” — William Owens of Marvin, NC
Weather is also not expected to break anytime soon. Hot and Dry – makes for raking leaves a lot easier.
