Friday Night Lights in Belmont
Tonight at Lineberger Stadium:
Alexander Central (1-2) at South Point (2-0)
Series history: The teams have never met.
Players to watch: Alexander Central QB Josh Russell has passed for 366 yards and four TDs. His top target is WR Byron Mays (155 yards, two TDs). South Point QB Desmond Lowery is coming off a 145-yard, three-TD performance against Kings Mountain in which he directed the Red Raiders to 459 yards of offense.
Storyline: South Point has been impressive in its first two games and better hope it doesn’t have a problem with Alexander Central tonight if it hopes to compete for the Big South title. That’s because North Gaston routed this team 42-7 in Week 1. Alexander Central beat St. Stephens 41-21 and lost to Hickory 40-12. The Cougars are allowing 296.7 yards per game, which plays into South Point’s strength.
Game kicks off at 7:30 PM. In Belmont, tailgating starts about 5:00 PM, in the parking lot outside of the stadium. With this being the first homegame of the season, there will be a large crowd. Be patient finding parking and be patient when leaving after the game.

Ok, it really is all about football in Belmont — school sure must be fun this week at South Point.
It was great to see many of the varsity football team out supporting the real “footies” last night at Lineberger Stadium.

He’s been a clutch player his whole youth sport career and a great pick in anyone’s book.
Last Saturday’s win was just part of a storybook of goal setting and accomplishments for this great kid !
