Tuesday night, the Gaston County Commissioners passed the formal resolution to hold a School Bond Referendum on November 6.

The amount the school system is asking to raise is $175 million for new construction, renovation, and school land acquisition.

This is a critical need in the eastern portion of Gaston County, both East Gaston HS and South Point HS are over capacity with hundreds of students literally living in trailers on both campuses.

With all of the exploding residential growth in the area, this bond is critical and in our opinion, needs passage in November.

We asked for help, and we got it.

This is exactly what we mean by community. Several people who read the Belmont Front Porch responded to our request to help with imbedding links. The solution was simple, and resulted in a whack upside the head for all of us. Thanks especially to The Gaston Spectator  for their help.

Right after the Minneapolis 1-35W Bridge collapse last Wednesday, NCDOT inspectors visited Belmont and a similar bridge on Hwy 273 near Plant Allen. Here is what they found: WCNC Top Stories.

Last week both the Gazette and Observer reported the inspections. We hoped that the only access south to the point is OK. It appears that while it is old, it is stable.
